Originally released in 2014, Bury Me At Makeout Creek is Mitski's breakthrough third studio album, marking a decisive shift from the orchestral arrangements of her first two records towards rawer guitar-driven indie rock. Produced by Patrick Hyland, the album combines distorted guitars, pounding drums and stripped-back arrangements with Mitski's intensely personal songwriting.
From the restless Townie and soaring First Love / Late Spring to Francis Forever, I Don't Smoke and the devastating Last Words Of A Shooting Star, the album captures Mitski at her most direct and emotionally exposed. It remains a defining record of 2010s indie rock and a key release in the development of her distinctive songwriting voice.
