Originally released in 2015, Elaenia is the debut album from British producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Sam Shepherd, aka Floating Points. Created over five years, the album grew from Shepherd's move away from laptop-based production towards analogue recording and live instrumentation, bringing together electronic music, jazz, classical composition, soul and Brazilian influences.
The result is a richly textured and forward-thinking record where intricate electronics meet acoustic instrumentation and expansive, cinematic arrangements. From the fractured rhythms of Nespole and Silhouettes (I, II & III) to the meditative For Marmish and Precursor, Elaenia remains a landmark release in contemporary experimental electronic music. This 10th Anniversary Edition was released in November 2025.
