Released in 2022, The Car is the seventh studio album from Sheffield's Arctic Monkeys, following 2018's Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino. Written by Alex Turner and produced by longtime collaborator James Ford, the album was recorded across Suffolk, Paris and London, with the band moving further into a lush, cinematic sound built around orchestral arrangements, intricate melodies and Turner's increasingly distinctive vocal style.
Released on 21 October 2022 through Domino, The Car features ten tracks including the singles There'd Better Be a Mirrorball, Body Paint and I Ain't Quite Where I Think I Am. From the sweeping opener There'd Better Be a Mirrorball to the understated Perfect Sense, the album sees Arctic Monkeys continuing to push beyond their earlier indie-rock sound into sophisticated orchestral pop.
